What do you think about Prayer?

I wanted to start things off by getting everyones opinion about what they think prayer is and sharing an experience they had when God answered their prayer. There are a few texts in the Bible that give us guidelines on how we should pray. I have listed a few of them below.

1. "Pray without ceasing." 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - The Bible recommends that we have a continual practice of praying throughout each day. This doesn't mean that we need to get on our knees everytime we pray, but it means that we should have our mind communicating continually to God through prayer. Prayer is our one main communication to God.

2. "Confess your faults to one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16 - Here we see that we should prayer for each other - intercessory prayer. Also it indicates that we should pray for others to be healed.

3. "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curese you, and do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." Matthew 5:44 - This indicates that we should not only pray for our loved ones and friends but also our enemies.

4. "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verifly I say unto you, They have their reward. Matthew 6:5 - This shows us that we shouldn't be proud when we pray, but we should have a humble spirit recognizing that God is all powerful.

5. "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:6 - With the hussle and bussel of life, making time to pray in a quite and private room really allows you to concentrate on your communication with God. This is very important to your spiritual relationship with God. Make time to pray, especially when you have a burden on your heart.

6. "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:7 - Talk to God like you would talk to your friend, God is all powerful and he doesn't need you to repeat things for him to get your prayers. He hears all prayers. The heathen use this method to fall into demonic trances to uprise their gods.

Welcome!

This blog is designed to support the small group/bible study that has been established in Kenosha. The purpose of this blog is to provide an outlet to the participants to ask questions and share their thoughts about the topics that we have addressed in previous study's. I pray that this outlet will bring people closer to the Bible and ultimately to knowing Christ better.

God Bless
